Late last month, Google released the fourth and final developer preview of Android O. With this, it was clear that the public release of Android O was imminent. Even though Google is yet to confirm the exact date, multiple sources have confirmed that Google will finally reveal what the “O” stands for and will be releasing the public version of Android 8.0 later this month.
Google will supposedly launch Android O on August 21st to be exact. The first smartphones that will be getting this update are the Pixel phones. The Pixel phones were released last year and are meant to replace the Nexus devices but with more involvement from Google. With this in mind, it is not strange to hear that they will be among the first devices to get the update.
Last year, Google released Android 7.0 on August 22nd so August 21st sounds just about right.
What Is New with Android O
Android O brings with it a number of new features to Google’s mobile OS. One area that users may appreciate in the performance. Android 8.0 is meant to improve performance and battery life of the device. It will be more strict and aggressive when it comes to managing applications running in the background.
In addition to this, Android O will also bring visible changes with interface and interaction models such as dot badges and adaptive icons, notification grouping among other features.
One major addition with Android O is Project Treble. Project Treble is an interesting one as it will allow Android devices to get timely updates directly from Android without the help of vendors.
