Infinix Note 4 Unboxing

The Infinix Note 4 is the latest smartphone from the company to be launched in Kenya. The phone went on sale on Monday last week and we finally have a review unit. This is the company’s phablet for 2017 and takes over from the Infinix Note 3 that was released back in 2016. Infinix Note devices are known for their big batteries and the Note 4 is not any different, it has a 4300 mAh unit which is its key selling point.

For those who are interested in the price, the Infinix Note 4 price is Ksh 13,999, quite reasonable if you ask me. This is the standard Note 4, there will be the Infinix Note 4 Pro that will be launched in Kenya sometime in August.

First Impressions

Now to the phone itself, what do I think about it so far? Well, from the design point of view, the Infinix Note looks really good. The back is slightly curved and this looks stylish and ensures it sits perfectly on your hand making its big size manageable. Speaking of the back, it is made of plastic and is removable to give you access to the two SIM card slots and the SD card slot. Even though the back cover is removable, the battery is non-removable.

As mentioned above, the back cover is made of glossy plastic and I got the one with an ‘Ice Blue’ finish that looks really good. The plastic is shiny and you may think it is glass but it is not, just plastic. The plastic feels fragile and I will have to see how it holds up during the review period.

Still at the back, you will find the 13MP camera and LED flash, no fingerprint sensor, that one has been moved to the front panel.

The Infinix Note 4 has a 5.7-inch display that is massive. The phone is also thick and this probably has to do with the big battery at the back. Even with the curved back, the phone is still bulky and heavy in my opinion.

The placement of the power and volume buttons on the Infinix Note 4 is impressive. If you have used any phablet before, then you know that on some phones, the buttons cannot be reached easily when using the phone with one hand. On the Note 4, my thumb reaches the power button easily when holding the phone with one hand. The power button is lower than it normally is on most smartphones and the volume keys are just above it.

At the bottom there is the standard USB port with two speaker grilles. Only one grille contains the actual speaker, the other one is just there for aesthetics. The headphone jack is at the top and this shows that Infinix is not yet ready to replace the headphone jack with a USB Type C.

To the display, it is quite vibrant and responsive from the first few minutes I have spent with it. It has 2.5D Glass for extra protection (and to look good). There is just something about smartphones with 2.5D Glass that I love, the way they curve just gives them a unique look.

At the very top of the display sits a number of sensors, an 8MP selfie camera and flash. At the bottom are physical navigation keys with the fingerprint sensor embedded underneath the home button.

These are just my first impressions of this phone, expect a full review in a couple of weeks. You can also find out more about the phones’ specifications using the link below.
