Facebook Messenger Gets a Live Location Sharing Option

Facebook live location sharing

A couple of days ago, Google Maps was updated to include a live location sharing option. this means that you could share your location in real-time with your contacts. Even though this feature is available to select users, Facebook is also rolling out a similar feature to its Messenger platform.

Facebook Messenger’s Live location sharing option works exactly the same way as Google’s. It allows you to share your live location with your contacts. When you share this, the contacts you select will see your exact location on a map for up to an hour. You can use this in many different situations such as when you have just met one of your friends at night and are heading home and you want them to see where you are till you get home. You can also use this when you are going to meet with a friend and you need to know where they are so you can make it to the meeting point.

You have the option of sharing your live location with one person or with a group. When you share your location, a small countdown clock will show you how long you have been sharing your location. You can stop live location sharing anytime if you wish to do so.

When you share your location, both you and the people you are sharing the location with will see how long it will take you to get to where they are. The location estimates assume you are driving so will give you the expected time based on that. You also have the option of sharing a particular location, not necessarily where you are.

An updated version of Facebook Messenger is rolling out globally on both Android and iOS so you should check out your specific app store to see if it available for you.
