If you know anything about Nokia, then you know that the company had some of the best cameras back when most manufacturers were not that crazy about smartphone cameras. This was especially so for its flagship smartphones.

Nokia re-entered the smartphone market last month at Mobile World Congress where it announced the global availability of the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones. None of these phones had Zeiss optics and this led to many people speculating that the company had another device under production with Zeiss optics. This is the camera technology Nokia had on some of its smartphones back in the day.

A couple of weeks after that, we got reports that HMD global had no plans to release such a device this year. The company confirmed this on Twitter saying  “We’re no longer using Carl Zeiss technology“. Even though we believed the reports, it looks like this was not true.

HMD global has clarified things in a statement that read,  “Hi, our current range does not have Carl Zeiss, which is what this tweet is referring to. Stay tuned for more announcements“. This means that the company was referring to the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 devices and not upcoming devices.

For future devices, the company isn’t confirming or denying that it will use Zeiss optics and all it is saying is, “stay tuned for future announcements.” With this, we may or may not see the technology on future Nokia devices but at least there is a possibility that will happen.
