Google May Remove the Headphone jack From the Pixel 2 Smartphone

Google Pixel Phones

When Apple launched the latest iPhones last year, most people were not happy that the company decided to ditch the headphone jack for a USB Type C port. This port is to be used to connect the earphones to the phone and is the same one to be used to charge the phone and for data transfer. Most people thought that it was still early to ditch the headphone jack for the all purpose USB Type C port.

With this, many people saw this as the perfect opportunity to try and lure Apple fans over to Android and specifically to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. These smartphones were launched around the same time and since they had premium specs, they were seen as perfect alternatives for the iPhone.

Well, it looks like Google may ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack with the release of the Pixel and Pixel XL successors aswell. This is according to an unconfirmed rumour that quotes Google’s internal document. The document itself has not been shared at this point as this would put the source at risk.

According to the sources familiar with the matter, “the language used presents the removal of the jack as a matter of fact.” What this means is that the decision has already been made and it is not something they are still deliberating on. Even with that said, this information comes from one source and has not been verified, this means that things might change between now and when the phone is launched later in the year.

We have seen a good number of manufacturers using USB Type C ports but most of them have also kept the headphone jack. Google even used this to attack Apple last year with the release of the iPhone 7 and it will be ironic to see the company do exactly what it was against last year.

This leaves us confused as we are not sure what will happen in the end and if this is still something the company is considering or if it decided to still keep the headphone jack. I still do find headphone jacks useful so I would definitely want to see them around.
