Late last year, Huawei unveiled its flagship phablet, the Huawei Mate 9. This phone came in two variants and both had 4GB of RAM, something we expected from a 2016 flagship.
Even with that said, Huawei has another Mate 9 variant that it will use to target the power users. The device has been spotted on various ecommerce stores and brings back the Mate 9 with even better specs including 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. We still don’t know the model number of this new device but the current models have version numbers MHA-L29 for the global model and MHA-L09 for the international model. The model number of the 6GB variant might be helpful in determining where Huawei plans to sell this phone.
For those who may be wondering, no, the 6GB model is not the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, that is a different device. This new model comes with the same 5.9-inch display, Octa Core processor, 4000 mAh battery and is running Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 on top. All the other good stuff including the dual camera setup remains the same as the original Mate 9.
The 6GB model of the Huawei Mate is priced at $800 (approximately Ksh 83,000). The original Mate 9 is currently available in Kenya for Ksh 69,000, we are still reviewing this unit so stick around for its full review that will be up before the end of the month.
