Facebook Messenger has just been updated and now supports group video chats. This update comes a week after Facebook added a new camera to Messenger. It now looks like users will find something to do with this new camera and its features.

According to Facebook, each group chat on Messenger will be able to support up to 6 people.  “Once more than six people are on the call, just the dominant speaker is shown to all participants,” the company said in a statement. Having video group chats is part of the company’s bigger strategy of pushing visual communication through its platforms.

A few weeks ago, Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, hinted at something like this but since he did not explain more, we weren’t sure what he meant. He said, “In most social apps today, a text box is still the default way we share. Soon, we believe a camera will be the main way that we share.”

Facebook has confirmed that this feature is rolling out to all the major platforms right away, the company said, “Group Video Chat is rolling out to Android and iOS devices, and the desktop version of Messenger, worldwide.”

“With 245 million people making video calls in Messenger every month, now we’re bringing everyone on Messenger the ability to turn group chats into face-to-face conversations,” the company said.
