By now, you probably already know that the next Android iteration will be called Android Nougat, we told you about that early this month and that Google has plans to release the final build later this year. Right now, the only people who are using Android N are those who signed up for the developer preview. This version is meant for developers and is not very stable, gets regular updates to fix the issues and is meant for those who want to try out and give feedback before the final release.
If you have Android N developer preview, there is an update for you which you can get right now if you don’t already have it. Head over to the settings page and click on the update button if you are running Android N developer preview and grab this latest update.
The update brings a number of changes and features which you ought to check out. Google is still calling this version Android N even though it revealed that its final name will be Nougat. The change log provided by Google does not reveal much about the changes. All we know is that Google is calling this update the final preview meaning that the next update will bring the stable version which will be released to the public.
The stable version of Android N will be released later this year as the company unveils the next Nexus devices, this is about three months from now.
Even as we get excited to see Android Nougat on the market, Android isn’t where Google wants it to be with the latest iteration, Android Marshmallow having a market share of 13.3%. This version has been on the market for about 9 months now and only managed to reach 13%. This number needs to go up and it is up to smartphone manufacturers to ensure that happens.
