Huawei seems to have started the year very well if its latest smartphone shipment figures are anything to go by. The company is said to have shipped 28.3 million smartphones during the first quarter (Q1) of the year.
28.3 million units sold represents a growth of 65% from the same period last year. This is an impressive growth from the company and this can be attributed to its devices such as the Mate S and Mate 8 devices that were launched towards the end of the year. In addition to these, there are other mid-range and entry level devices from the company that might helped it reach this new record.
The 28.3 million figure includes the 2.6 million units of the P9 and P9 smartphones that the company launched back in April. The P9 is an impressive device with an affordable price tag and I expect it to help the company reach even higher figures in Q2.
Last year, Huawei managed to sell over 100 Million smartphones and this year it is targeting to sell 140 million units which doesn’t seem too farfetched. There have been rumors that it lowered this figures to 120 million but the company has refuted those claims.
All we can do right now is wait and see how the P9 performs and see if they will help the company break its own records this year.
