Back in October 2015, Huawei unveiled the Honor 5X to its customers in China. This phone came with an interesting spec combination including a 5.5 inch display, a Snapdragon 616 processor, 2 or 3GB of RAM, a 13MP camera at the back and a 3000 mAh battery. All these specs and the phone retails for Ksh 28,000 here in Kenya as the Huawei GR5.
Back to the Honor 5X, it is being reported that over 8 million units have been sold since launch. This is according to Zhao Ming who heads the Honor brand and he revealed this when unveiling the Honor 5A. With over 8 million units sold so far, Huawei has managed to sell at least 1 million Honor 5X units every month since it was launched.
The international version of the Honor 5X, the Huawei GR5, went on sale in a few markets as from this year and the sale of this model was not included in the overall sale of the 5X. it is still not clear how the two compare in terms of sales and I would particularly be interested to know if the GR5 sold more units than the Honor 5X or vice versa.
We reviewed the smaller brother to the GR5, the Huawei GR3, a few weeks back which you can check using the link below.

Moving Forward
Moving forward, Zhao Ming expects strong sales figures from the Honor 5X which he expects to cross the 10 million mark this year.
The Honor brand is Huawei’s affordable lineup that consists of devices that come with decent specs. This brand is mostly available in China and in other markets the company sells them under the Huawei name. The next device under the Honor brand will be the Honor 8 which will be unveiled before the second half of the year.
