Samsung officially unveils the Gear Fit 2 smart band and the Gear IconX wireless earbuds

Gear Fit 2

Yesterday, we told you that Samsung was ready to update its wearable lineup with a new smart band, the Gear Fit 2. This smart fitness band is meant to succeed the original Samsung Gear Fit which was unveiled back in 2014.

We were expecting to see this smart band later this month but Samsung has surprised us and has unveiled it today. Besides the smart band, Samsung has also introduced the Gear IconX, a pair of wireless earbuds.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2

As I have mentioned above, the Gear Fit 2 is here to replace the original Gear Fit which was unveiled back in 2014. It comes with a 1.5 inch curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 216 x 432 pixels. The curved design of this smart wearable is to allow for a comfortable everyday use. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core paired with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage space.

To ensure you are always connected even when on the go, Samsung has included 200 mAh battery. This smart band comes with a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, GPS sensor, Gyro sensor and a barometer. It is water and dust resistant and Samsung says that it is able to survive when submerged 1.5 meters ofr water for up to 30 minutes.

The Gear Fit 2 runs on Tizen OS and is compatible with smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat and above and which have 1.5GB of RAM.

Its price will start from $179.99 (approximately Ksh 18,000) when it is available on June 10.

The Samsung Gear IconX

The most interesting of the two devices announced by Samsung is the Gear IconX. These wireless earbuds are not your usual earbuds as they are able to track your heart rate, calories burned, speed and distance moved. They can then sync this information to the Samsung S Health app via Bluetooth.

You activate these earbuds by just placing them on your ears. You can use them as standalone music player since they come with 4GB of memory space that can store up to 1000 songs.  They also support all Android smartphones with Android 4.4 and above and with at least 1.5GB of RAM.

The Gear IconX earbuds have just been announced and will be available officially as from next quarter. We will know more about pricing then.
