If you are a regular here at TechArena, you may have seen our coverage of Tecno’s upcoming tablet, the DroiPad 8II. This is the fourth tablet from Tecno to be launched in Kenya in two consecutive years. The other three are the DroiPad 7Cs, DroiPad 8H, WinPad10.
The Tecno DroiPad 8II is finally available in retail stores in Kenya as of today. Its retail price is Ksh 17,499 and is available through Tecno partner shops around the country. This tablet comes into the market less than a week after Samsung launched the 2016 Galaxy Tab A 7.0 in the country. The Tab A is available for Ksh 20,999 and this makes things a bit hard for Tecno.
Unlike previous tablets by the company, the DroiPad 8II will not be available on Safaricom shops. Why? Basically, Safaricom is not a huge fan of dual SIM devices and this tablet comes with two SIM card slots so you will not find it there. Some of the previous Tecno tablets had single SIM slots and that is why they were available on Safaricom shops. Besides the offline partner stores, Tecno also plans to have the tablet on Jumia at a slightly reduced price.
The tablet market is still very small in Kenya as most people prefer detting phablets that can act as both smartphones and tablets.
