Last week, we told you that Sony had started updating some Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact in select markets to Android Marshmallow. This was sort of a test roll out and that is why it was not available to all users back then. The good news about this is that the testing was successful and the company is ready to update all the remaining Xperia Z2 and Z3 smartphones.
It is being reported that Sony is now updating the remaining Xperia Z2, Z3, Z3 Dual, and Z3 Compact phones that were not included in the initial beta program. The new models that are receiving the update include D6502, D6646, D6653, D6633 and D5833 models. This update is available over the air so you will need a reliable Wi-Fi connection on your phone to get it at this point. The other models will be getting the update very soon, probably within a week.
Sony is also updating the older Xperia Z2 tablet with Android Marshmallow. The Xperia Z2 tablet was released back in 2014 and am sure anyone who owns it will appreciate that Sony is updating it given that it is almost two years old. We are also learning that both LTE and Wi-Fi-only models of this tablet are getting the update at the same time.
If you own the newer, Xperia Z3 Tablet, you will have to wait a bit longer as it is not getting updated at the moment. Sony has not said when this tablet will be getting the update or if it will be getting the update at all. Sony has really tried to update its devices to Marshmallow and am hoping the company doesn’t mess things up by ignoring some devices such as the Z3 tablet.
Incase you are wondering, Sony has already updated the Xperia Z5, the Xperia Z3+ and the Z4 tablets before the Xperia Z2 and Z3 smartphones joined the party.
