Lenovo officially unveiled its latest budget friendly smartphone, the Vibe K5 Plus, In India yesterday. Lenovo is one of the few top manufacturers that still invest heavily in the low end market segment. This market segment is very complicated and seeing manufacturers such as Lenovo still investing in it is a good thing.
The Vibe K5 Plus has just been launched in India and am still not sure if we will be getting it in other markets. Its retail price is $126 (approximately Ksh 13,000) and will be available as from next week.
Some of the features of the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus include a 5 inch Full HD display. We rarely see Full HD displays on entry level smartphones within this price range and it is a good thing to see Lenovo try and change this. Powering the K5 Plus is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 (4x 1.7GHz Cortex-A53 and 4x 1.2GHz Cortex-A53) processor paired with an Adreno 405 GPU with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
At the back, the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a 13MP camera with a 5MP one in front. This is a very powerful combination if you ask me and what’s even better is the back camera comes with OmniVision OV13850 sensor for better quality photos. Still at the back is a 2750 mAh removable battery.
The unfortunate thing about the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is that it comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop instead of Android Marshmallow. With most Android enthusiast expecting Android N later this year, am not sure what manufacturers have planned by releasing phones powered by Android Lollipop. My hope at this time is for Lenovo to release the Marshmallow update for the Vibe K5 Plus before Android N rolls out.
