Earlier today, Samsung opened its largest consumer experience in the region. This store is also the largest Samsung Dedicated Mobile Phone shop in Africa. As Samsung was opening this store, the company revealed that it will be bringing its latest flagship Smartphone, the Galaxy S7, into the country on March 18.

The first wave of the Galaxy S7 global launch will be on March 11 as we had told you a few days ago. This means that Kenya will be missing the first wave but at least we will be getting it 7 days later.

Samsung also announced that pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 are now open in Kenya but did not reveal much about this. We will keep you updated on this if and when we learn more.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 was launched a few days ago at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and was one of the most talked about Smartphones at the event. Below are some of the specs it comes with.

Display Size: 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560

Chipset: Exynos 8 Octa 8890 or quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820

Processor: 2.3GHz + 1.6GHz Octa Core Processor/2.15GHz + 1.6GHz

Storage Space: 32/64GB

Android Version: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Samsung did not reveal how much it will be retailing at but we will know that at a later date.

Samsung’s Dominance

At the same event, Samsung also revealed that its market share in Kenya stands at 60% at the moment. This is unconfirmed but even if it is not true, it may be close to that. Samsung also revealed that it will be investing in offline retail stores given that online sales account for only 5% of its sales. It would not make for the company to put in so much effort online if sales are only 5%.

All in all, Samsung is still dominant in this market even as competition from Chinese manufacturers gets tougher.
