Sometime last year, Facebook announced that it will be introducing a like button alternative called Facebook reactions. This new feature will bring six emoji for angry, sad, wow, haha, yay and love making them much more useful as currently users can only use the like button which is not appropriate for all occasions.

When Facebook announced this new feature, it was only available in select markets in Spain, Ireland, Chile, Philippines, Portugal and Colombia. The company was just testing this feature in these countries so it was not available to everyone. It seems like the testing produced positive results as Facebook has plans to expand availability to other markets.

The Bloomberg is reporting that this feature will start rolling out to users globally in the next few weeks.

Doing away with the like button for certain situations makes sense and this feature is long overdue. Many people had been asking for a dislike button but that would not have made much sense for certain situations. Facebook has decided to roll out an emoji option which am sure many users will be happy with.

To be able to use this feature, users will have to long press over the bottom of the post of hover over it with a mouse when on a desktop. This will bring out the six emoji and you are free to choose the one appropriate for the situation.

Facebook in its part has said that it is not in rush to roll out the feature to all users. the company’s product manager, Chris Cox is quoted saying “We roll things out very carefully. And that comes from a lot of lessons learned.”

At this point, we will just have to be patient and wait for the feature to be available to us no matter how long it takes.
