Every so often, we see smartphone manufacturers come out with some mind blowing devices both in terms of design and specs, then at other times, we see manufacturers who try to copy what existing players are doing as they try to climb the ladder to success. Copying others is not something new especially with Chinese manufacturers. The latter is true for Vivo with its two new smartphones it unveiled two days ago.
The Vivo X6 and vivo X6 Plus were unveiled yesterday and have an absolutely beautiful metallic body even though they borrow a lot from Apple’s iPhone.
These two devices have almost similar specs with the only differences being their sizes. To start with the Vivo X6, it has a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution giving a pixel density of 424ppi.
Powering the Vivo X6 is a 1.7GHz Octa-core MediaTek processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space, this is not disappointing at all. You can get a MicroSD card option if you choose the single SIM version of the Vivo X6.
The X6 has a 13MP camera at the back with an accompanying 8MP unit in front for selfies and video calls. Below the 13MP camera at the back, you also get a fingerprint reader for extra security. Underneath, it has a 2,400 mAh battery that is not quite impressive as I believe the company could have done more.
As for pricing, the Vivo X6 will start at $390 (approximately Ksh 40,000) when it is available as from December 7.
The Vivo X6 Plus on the other hand looks a lot more like the iPhone 6S Plus in terms of design. Besides that, it has a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080P resolution (386ppi). It is powered by the same 1.7GHz oct-core processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. Just like the X6, you have the option of choosing between a dual SIM version and one that comes with a microSD slot but not both.
The X6 Plus also has a 13MP camera at the back with a fingerprint reader below it with an 8MP unit at the front. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging technology. As for the OS, the Vivo X6 Plus comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop heavily skinned to transform it into Funtouch OS.
The X6 Plus will retail for $500 (approximately Ksh 51,000) when it launches in China on December 7.
