Yesterday, we told you about the ultra-low end device that Samsung is working on. This smartphone, the Galaxy J1 Mini, will be Samsung’s cheapest devices and will be its attempt to recapture the low end market segment as it has been losing its market share to Chinese manufacturers.
Besides the Galaxy J1 Mini, Samsung is also working on another affordable smartphone that may be unveiled anytime soon. This new smartphone will be slightly more expensive than the Galaxy J1 Mini as it is meant to replace the current Galaxy J1.
The new Galaxy J1 has already been certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US meaning that it is technically ready to be launched anytime from today. The device has the model number SM-J120F and will be available in single and dual-SIM variants.
The official name has not been revealed but that is not an important thing at the moment. For the display, it will have a 4.5 inch one which is slightly bigger than the 4.3 inch display found on the current Galaxy J1.
Powering the new Galaxy J1 will be a 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage space. As for the camera, it will have a 5MP one at the back with a 2MP one on the front for selfies and video calls. As you can see, these are not mind blowing specs and that is sort of a good thing as it helps keep the price low.
As for pricing, it is expected to retail at $100 (approximately Ksh 10,200) which is around the same price as the current Galaxy J1. We will keep you updated on this phone as we get more information.
