For a few weeks now, we have known that Samsung has plans to update most of its mid-range and high end devices with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. What we have not known is when Samsung plans to do so or which devices will be updated first and which ones will join the list later.
For the Samsung fans who have been waiting, the wait is finally over as a roadmap has leaked online giving us a clue as to how Samsung plans to roll out Android Marshmallow to its Galaxy devices. The roadmap is broken down into two phases, with the first phase consisting of the high end devices with other devices following thereafter.
The first wave of updates will arrive as early as next month and will be available for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+. Following these closely will be the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge which will get Android Marshmallow update in January. After these, the Galaxy Note Edge and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will join the Marshmallow lineup in February. The Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha are also on this list but it has not been confirmed when they will get this update, my guess is that they will be getting the update sometime in March.
Phase 2 of the Android Marshmallow update will include Samsung Galaxy A8, Samsung Galaxy A7, Samsung Galaxy A5, Samsung Galaxy A3, Samsung Galaxy E7 and Samsung Galaxy E5. These devices are also waiting for approval so we don’t have an ETA for Android Marshmallow roll out. Probably they will start getting this update as from March or even earlier.
At this point, we do not have any information if or even when the Galaxy J devices will be updated. It would be nice if Samsung updates the Galaxy J devices with Android Marshmallow as they are very popular device in Kenya and most emerging markets.
