Xiaomi has managed to curve its own market share ever since it was established back in 2010. By manufacturing affordable products, Xiaomi has been able to ship and sell millions of devices in the markets it has a presence in.
In March 2015, Xiaomi launched its budget friendly smartphone, the Redmi 2A. This smartphone seems to be a hit with consumers as the company is said to have sold 11 million units so far. 11 million units in just 7 months is quite impressive considering the fact that Xiaomi has operations in very few markets mostly in Asia.
With Xiaomi planning to expand to Africa, I bet we will be talking about higher figures next year as we talk about the Redmi 2A’s successor. Since this is a budget friendly device, it will definitely be a hit in Africa given that it comes with some amazing specs you do not expect from such a device.
Decent specs
The Xiaomi Redmi 2A is powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-Core Processor coupled with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM. The 1GB version has 8GB of internal storage space and retails at $78 (approximately Ksh 8,000) while the 2GB variant has 16GB of storage space and retails at $86 (approximately Ksh 8,800).
This phone has a 4.7 inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. At the back it has an 8MP camera with LED flash and autofocus and a 2MP one in front. Ensuring the Redmi 2A stays charged up is a 2200 mAh battery.
