Samsung unveiled its new smartwatch, the Gear S2 back in September. This smartwatch captured my attention because of its rotating bezel that brings some unique features and functionalities to smartwatches.
The Gear S2 went on sale a few weeks after being launched in a few markets and was a hit with consumers. Some of the countries you can expect to find the Gear S2 include the US, UK, Samsung’s home country of South Korea, China among others.
The Gear S2 is already doing well in South Korea and now it is reported that it is equally popular as well in China. This smartwatch is so popular in China that over 180,000 units were sold out in just 8 hours after being launched. Keep in mind that these units were sold through one channel, the online retailer JD.com.
Considering that this was possible in just through one channel, you cannot help but wonder what kind of figures we would be looking at if the smartwatch was available in offline retail shops.
Coming to Kenya
The Samsung Gear S2 will be launched in Kenya later this month according to officials within the company. No exact date has been set as of yet so we will just have to wait for that. As for price, it will be available for $350 (approximately Ksh 36,000 before taxes and subsidies).
We will keep you posted on this and inform you when this smartwatch is officially available in the country.
