Last night, Microsoft had a big event and the company used that opportunity to announce three new Lumia smartphones that include the Lumia 950XL, Lumia 950 and the Lumia 550. We have already talked about the Lumia 950XL and Lumia 950 which are the company’s flagship devices. These are also the first flagship devices to run on Windows 10 Mobile and the first ones from Microsoft ever since it took over Nokia’s mobile division.
The Lumia 550 is the budget friendly Windows 10 Mobile device that looks very beautiful from the photos I have seen. It was not the popular and most anticipated device at the event that is why you probably did not hear about it. Even though this is the case, I have to share with you some of its specs as this is the device I will be looking forward to in Kenya and see how it performs against competition.
The Lumia 550 comes with a 4.7 inch display with a 720p resolution with a pixel density of 315 ppi. The Pixel density is not that bad as you can see. Powering this phone is a 1.1 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space. As expected, the storage space can be expanded further using a microSD card.
At the back, the Lumia 550 has a 5MP camera that can shoot 720p videos and a 2MP front facing camera. These are not the best cameras but you can’t complain so much given that this is an entry level device.
The Lumia 550 supports LTE connectivity and comes with a 2100 mAh battery.
The phone will officially be unveiled in December so we should be getting it in Kenya as from then or early next year. It will be retailing at $139 (approximately Ksh 14,000 before taxes and subsidies).
We will keep you posted on this phone and when it is finally available in Kenya.
