Sony wants to get as many of its smartphone as possible to be running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Even with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the company is not about to use that as an excuse not to update some of its devices with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The company has announced that the Xperia M2 and M2 Aqua will be getting updated with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This is quite strange given the devices are currently on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Sony was expected to update these devices to Android 5.0 first before Android 5.1.1 but it looks like the company has other plans.
The update is already rolling out to some users in some regions. If you have either the Xperia M2 or M2 Aqua, do not worry if you do not have it yet as it you will get it soon.

Way to go Sony! I just hope other manufacturers follow this and update most of their devices. At this point, Sony is one of the biggest manufacturers that is keen to roll out Android Lollipop to most of its devices.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
With what Sony has shown us this year, I expect to see the company roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to most of its devices before the end of the year or sometime next year. Probably this should be one reason why people should switch to Xperia smartphones.
