Xiaomi coming to Africa. Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the world, has decided to make its debut in Africa. The company will be partnering with Mobile in Africa Limited to launch its devices in Africa this September. Plans are already underway in 50 African countries to set up online stores where these devices will be available. Read More of that here.
YouTube Offline Is Coming To Kenya. This week, Google revealed that YouTube Offline will be coming to a few African countries including Kenya. YouTube offline is a service that allows you to view video content from YouTube even when you have no internet connection. Read More here.
Uber Kenya now accepts Cash and mobile money payments. This week, Uber announced that users in Kenya will now be able to pay for their rides using either cash of mobile money. This is after the completion of a two month pilot period. Lack of diverse payment options is what has slowed down Uber’s growth in Kenya given the fact that people here prefer using mobile payment options. Read More here.
22 year old Kenyan won Ksh 500,000 in a Mobile App Competition. AVIC International Holding Corporation in conjunction with Gear Box have announced the winners of the just concluded Mobile App Challenge held at Kenya Teachers Training College in Gigiri, Nairobi. More of that here.

Android One came to Africa. This week, Google partnered with Infinix to bring Android One to Africa. The first phone in this program to come to Africa is the Infinix Hot 2 and is available in Nigeria but a source inside Infinix tell me that it will be in Kenya at the beginning of September.
