The Africa Hackon conference is East Africa’s premier technical computer security collective which brings together the individual talents of the best and brightest security professionals in the region, through live presentations, engaging discussions and hands on demonstrations. This year’s conference will be the second one and will be held in Nairobi later this month. As we prepare for this conference, I have decided to tell you five things that you need to know about this event.
Date and Venue
The Africa Hackon conference will be held at the iHub on 31st July 2015. Africa Hackon organized the first such event last year on 28th of February 2014 in Nairobi and its back this year even bigger and better. According to the organizers, the event follows the call for presentations #opZeroDay 2015 whose deadline passed on 30th May.
What the Event Is All About
The Africa Hackon conference was started by Bright Gameli Mawudor and Lewis Ng’ang’a who had and still have an interest in Cyber Security. The two were concerned with how Kenya lacked awareness in the field and the fact that the industry still remained in the shadows. From the very start, Africa Hackon aimed at having a conference with real live demonstrations and to educate the community without getting lost in vendor specific agendas.
Who’s invited?
The Africa Hackon conference brings together individual talents of the best and brightest security professionals in the region, through live presentations, engaging discussions and hands on demonstrations. This conference is not just meant for hackers but anyone with an appreciation and fascination with information systems, gadgets and how they can be tinkered with.
Why the Conference Matters
Cyber security is very important for most organizations and this is an area Africa Hackon pushes. Through aggressive initiatives of training the next generation of information security practitioners. A good place is in learning institutions where a good foundation is being laid. These students are then guided and mentored by some of the brightest information security professionals in the industry. The vision is to have a large number of information security professionals well versed in both the defensive and offensive sides of the trade.
Where to Get the Tickets
The event as I said above will be held at the end of the month on 31st July 2015 at the iHub. Tickets are available from Ticket Sasa with advance tickets are going for Ksh. 1,500.
