Samsung Wallet was officially announced at MWC 2013 meaning that it has been around for two years. This platform was not that popular as Samsung had expected when it was announced. Samsung is at last pulling the plug on Samsung Wallet as its expectations were not achieved.
Samsung says that the usage rate of Samsung Wallet was below what they expected. The company says that Samsung Wallet will be discontinued on June 30, 2015 in all countries it is operating in. In a statement, the company said,
Unfortunately, the usage rate of Samsung Wallet was not what anyone expected. One of our company’s core values is to guarantee the best user experience. We feel today that we can no longer guarantee this experience. This is why we have officially decided to discontinue Samsung Wallet on June 30, 2015 in all counties. We greatly appreciate all your support and enabling Samsung users to enjoy your content and service through Samsung Wallet
Do not just start mourning yet as Samsung says that its Wallet platform will be replaced by Samsung Pay. Samsung pay will first be available for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the next few months before launching to other Galaxy devices.
Let’s hope that Samsung pay turns heads and becomes more successful than the Samsung Wallet.
