With Meerkat users are free to livestream directly to their Twitter followers. To do this, all you have to do is click on stream and your Twitter followers will be able to see the event you are streaming. For those who have this app, you get notifications when someone you follow starts a live stream. Meerkat is not alone as Twitter also launched its own streaming app called Periscope.

Meerkat is ahead of Periscope as the latter is only available for iOS. Both these apps are free and it will be interesting to see how these two apps compete.
